Massage, Muscle Chains and Contractfields

Course Details

“Muscle chains” are muscle groups that act in unison in creating normal body movements. For example, the simple act of putting the heel of the foot down on the ground begins with the nerve sending a signal to the calf muscles, which in turn sends another message to the muscles in the back of the thigh. This cascading affect of stimulations continues up to the muscles of the buttock, moving on thru to the opposite side of the back. These muscle chains are first formed during the fetal stage of development. At this time, the cellular development of the nerves, muscles and skin begins to take place.  Eventually, these connections flow, like rivers, through the body to form “contractile fields” and are the areas lying between the lines of the meridians. This process continues to expand as the body develops. Any form of interruption to this flow, whether it being internal or external trauma can eventually cause tension, pain or disease.Esalen Massage Muskelketten und Katraktfelden I

Besides becoming comfortable with the theory, participants will also experience lots of hands-on practice, demonstrations and learning exercises. These include: small and large movements of the limbs, neuro-physical stimulation points, passive stretching and mobilization and archetypical body positioning. This all will demonstrate the healthy (unhealthy) foundation of a person’s body. Participants will be able to affect imbalance(s) found in the body and help bring about greater mobility and greater sense of general well being, including that on the energetic level. They will be able to easily integrate these new elements and understandings in their already existing massage styles and practices.
