The following „homework“ is intended to support you in your learning process during your Esalen Massage training. If you follow these guidelines success in acquiring good massage skills is guaranteed. It will also help provide a smooth transition for you from one training module to the next.

In order to have all participants at the same level during the training it is important that everyone adheres to these guidelines, so no one person holds back the group from moving forward in its learning of new massage methods and insights. Pre-training Requirement

  • All participants must attend a weekend introductory course

Requirements between the training parts (as of the second part)

  • Give 3 massage sessions and protocol* them in a hand book. No more than 3 sessions with any one person.
  • Give and receive 1 exchange massage sessions with training participants and protocol them in a hand book.
  • Between 2second and the fifth part receive 1 professional session in Esalen Massage from an Esalen Massage Practitioner and protocol it in your hand book

Requirements after completing all training parts

  • Give 30 massage sessions and protocol* them in a hand book. No more than 4 sessions any one person.
  • Give and receive 5 exchange massage sessions with training participants and protocol* them in a hand book.
  • Receive 2 professional session in Esalen Massage from an Esalen Massage Practitioner and protocol* it in your hand book.
  • Receive 1 professional session in Esalen Massage from an Esalen Massage teacher and protocol* it in your hand book. This can be done during or after the training.
  • Give 1 supervised massage session to an official “proofer” and include a protocol* in your hand book.
  • Take a weekend anatomy class at THE CENTER. This can be done during or after the training.

Protocol Content

* Protocols: Write about your impressions, difficulties, surprises, feelings or changes that occurred in the person you massaged or in your own body when you were massaged. Also, include any verbal feedback from the person you were with concerning their condition before and after the session. Each protocol should have a minimal of 220 words.

The “Test” Massage has two parts

  • Written part: When you are done with all of your “homework” send in your completed protocol hand book. After it has been approved you can then make an appointment for the evaluation massage.
  • Practical part: You will give your evaluation massage to a test expert. After you have passed the evaluation massage you will receive your diploma.

Important:

All additional costs coming from the training requirements like the anatomy class, Practitioner and supervision sessions, as well as, the test massage are not included in the training fee.

EMR Registration (only for Switzerland)

This training in Esalen Massage coheres to the current regulations of the EMR. Until the end of 2005, the EMR regulates that ann Esalen Massage therapist needs:
1)  A diploma from a 200 hour Esalen Massage training.
2)
150 hours of unspecified school medicine anatomy (see table underneath)..
3) 2
50 hours of documented massage sessions given (250 sessions that are 1 hour long, or 125 sessions that are 2 hours long).

  • 45 Hours - Anatomy and Physiology
  • 45 Hours - Pathology
  • 20 Hours - Client history and Diagnosis
  • 20 Hours - Psychosomatic und Psychological observation
  • 20 Hours - Emergency Care and Hygiene
